Article Abstract:

The prevalence of antidepressant use in older people has been assessed over 5 years in a retrospective, population-based study involving administrative claims and census databases for more than 1.4 mil people in Ontario aged 65 or older. Findings show that the prevalence of antidepressant users is dynamic. It is independently and significantly associated with gender, age, and time of assessment. the study had some limitations. New medications and a new co-payment plan were introduced during the study period.

Variation in estimates of urinary incontinence prevalence in the community: effects of differences in definition, population characteristics, and study type

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of urinary incontinence in communities depends on how the term is defined and which age and gender group is studied. A review of 21 studies on incontinence found that among older men and women, the prevalence of incontinence ranged from 11% to 34% and 17% to 55%, respectively. Among middle-aged men and women, the rates were 3% to 5% and 12% to 42%. If incontinence was defined as daily incontinence, the prevalences were smaller.

The epidemiology of cardiac pacemakers in the older US population

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to estimate the age distribution of patients receiving cardiac pacemakers in hospitals. The records of 26,425 recipients were selected. The study showed that recipients 65 years and older received almost 131,361 initial and replacement pacemakers. The data also revealed that as the number of older people grow in the US, there will be a further increase in the number of pacemakers.
