Rapid emergency department intervention for older people reduces risk of functional decline: results of a multicenter randomized trial

Article Abstract:

The article supports a two-stage intervention for elderly patients within an emergency medical service setting. The intervention, involving screening and nursing evaluation, has been found to significantly decrease the rate of the patients' subsequent functional decline. Data were obtained from subjects 65 years of age and older, with one- and four-month follow-ups.
