Undertreatment of hypertension in older Mexican Americans

Article Abstract:

Many Mexican Americans are not receiving adequate treatment for hypertension. A survey of 3,050 Mexican-American men and women 65 and older found that 61% had hypertension but only half were taking antihypertensive drugs. Only 25% had blood pressure below 140/90 on two separate blood pressure readings. Women were more likely to be treated than men, as were those with a history of heart disease, and a regular source of health care.

The relationship between blood pressure and mortality in the oldest old

Article Abstract:

This article examines blood pressure levels and mortality rates among older women and men during a six-year longitudinal study. Findings indicate that increased systolic blood pressure is associated with a higher risk of death in adults over sixty-five but improved survival rates in men over eighty-five years old.

Effect of nurse case management on the treatment of older women with breast cancer
