Sentence comprehension in Alzheimer's disease: effects of grammatical complexity, speech rate, and repetition

Article Abstract:

An experiment participated in by 15 patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease and 20 normal individuals was conducted to find out a way to improve speech comprehension in the former group. Results show that modification of speech pattern in terms of repetition, even in a paraphrased form, improved comprehension. On the other hand, a slowing down of speech rate did not significantly improve comprehension.
