Screening for cervical carcinoma in older women

Article Abstract:

This article presents standards on how often pap tests for cervical cancer screening should be conducted on healthy older women. Medicare benefits have recently been extended to provide benefits for periodic pap tests in this population since studies suggest that cancer screening could extend the life spans of older women.

Safety efficacy of risedronate in reducing fracture risk in osteoporic women aged 80 and older: Implications for the use of antiresorptive agents in the old and oldest old

Article Abstract:

The efficacy of risedronate in reducing vertebral fracture risk in women aged 80 and older with osteoporosis is determined. The findings provide the first evidence that, even in the very old, reducing bone resorption rate remains an effective treatment strategy for osteoporosis.

A loading dose of tamoxifen followed by a standard dose in frail older women with breast cancer is feasible and effective

Article Abstract:

A study examined the dosing of tamoxifen for breast cancer in frail older women. The feasibility and activity of a loading dose of 160 mg for two days followed by a standard dose of 20 mg per day was supported, with no significant toxicity.
