Socioemotional selectivity in cancer patients

Article Abstract:

A study in line with the theory of socioemotional selectivity analyzes the contact preferences of newly diagnosed cancer patients and healthy control group participants, where patients are more likely to prefer contact with familiar social partners. Increased interest in contacts with unfamiliar social partners increased only if therapy was perceived to be successful, thus indicating that contact preferences are adapted according to the perception of limited versus extended future lifetime.

Generalized slowing in sinusoidal tracking by older adults

Article Abstract:

Assessment of the functional correlations between the performance of younger and older adults to a sinusoidal tracking test provided insight on the nature of generalized slowing of cognitive faculties in the aged. This finding was obtained by ascertaining the slowness in the older subjects' reactions in tracking input signals in the sinusoidal tracking test.
