Subjective memory complaints, psychological distress, and longitudinal change in objective memory performance

Article Abstract:

A one-year follow-up study shows that subjective memory ratings are better predictors of psychological distress compared to objective memory performance or objective longitudinal memory change. People with memory impairment report greater complaints of memory problems. Results imply that subjective memory reports have limited clinical utility as a proxy for memory assessment. The study sample comprises 294 subjects aged 55-97 years.
