Temporal memory for remote events in healthy aging and dementia

Article Abstract:

Healthy older adults and individuals in the early stages of dementia were subjected to an experiment on memory for the temporal order of term of office of seven past US presidents. A bow-shaped pattern of errors in temporal order was noted among those who recognized all seven presidents. For those with dementia, the accuracy of temporal ordering declined as their dementia was more severe. These results show that dementia of the Alzheimer type affects 'old memory' even in its early stages.

Age-related differences in object- and location-based inhibition of return of attention

Article Abstract:

The visual attention influences information processing when the subject is presented with a subset of information at any given time. Research shows that age has a differential effect on the inhibition of return of visual attention with inhibition for objects being affected by age while that of location being unaffected.

Visual search for change in older adults

Article Abstract:

Two experiments are reported which show that older adults are slower than younger ones in detecting changes to simple visual stimuli. Examination of eye movement behavior during the search for change suggested that age-related changes in the useful field of view and degree of cautiousness play a significant role.
