The challenging of pulmonary embolism in elderly patients: influence of age on commonly used diagnostic tests and strategies

Article Abstract:

The prevalence, diagnosis and measurement of pulmonary embolism, through the usage of different diagnostic strategies, are discussed. These strategies include, clinical probability, D-dimer measurement, lower limb compression ultrasonography, ventilation-perfusion lung scan, and helical computed tomography (hCT). A study determining the functioning of each of these tests, and the influence of aging on the diagnostic accuracy of clinical probability assessment, is presented.

Telomere biology in aging and Cancer

Article Abstract:

Cell turnover mechanism replaces the damaged cells used for the maintenance and causes the aging of human body. Division of cells to increase the immunity is restricted by the probability of cancer. "Replicative aging" limits the counting of cell divisions in telomeres that counts the cell divisions at the end of the chromosomes.
