A comparison of networks between industry and public sector research in materials technology and biotechnology

Article Abstract:

Differences in modes of public-private cooperation in technology development are relative to technological areas. For instance, in biotechnology, the core network is composed of research organizations while in the materials industry, companies are central while other firms remain in the peripheral. Variations between market-based networks and publicly-funded networks are attributed to the dissimilarity of resources tapped for innovation in technology development in distinct technological areas.
