Commemorating D-Day: Liberating a continent

Article Abstract:

June 6, 2004 marks the 60th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, France and on that day, a fleet of over 5,300 vessels landed 175,000 troops on several beaches in the largest amphibious assault in history. Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Utah Beach Monument, National D-Day Museum and National D-Day Memorial remind the future generations of the sacrifices.

'They're doing it for us - we can't forget that

Thousands of Americans are wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and those severely injured usually find their way to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Lately they have become focus of much-deserved attention therefore some of these men who are being treated and those helping them in their physical and spiritual recovery express their experiences.

A tribute to the eight daring American POWs who survived and escaped in an ingenious and determined way is presented. The different methods used by the American POWs to survive and escape are discussed.
