Competition, quality of care, and the role of the consumer

Article Abstract:

A couple of researchers in the discipline of health care financing analyzes how the creation of standards may entice customers to become actively involve in the selection of health care providers. The introduction of laws supporting the growth of health maintenance organizations (HMOs) have brought increases in market competition and price sensitivities. Consumers can entice providers to offer better services by evaluating the quality of health care they are receiving and relating that information to their respective HMOs.
