Correcting measures of relationship between aggregate-level variables for both unreliability and correlated errors: an empirical example

Article Abstract:

A technique to measure correctly the reliability of aggregate-level variables in social science research has been determined. Aggregate-level variables refer to analytic units in research such as weighted percents, rates or means. In previous attempts to determine aggregate-level variables, errors occur because of the presence of an erratic component in joint sampling. The new technique uses aggregate-level reliability coefficients and the corrected aggregate-level correlation coefficients.

UCR violent crime rates, 1958-2000: recorded and offender-generated trends

Article Abstract:

The rate of violent crimes, such as rapes and aggravated assaults that increased steadily from the early 1960s until the early 1990s are investigated. The investigation suggests that the long-term increase in the crime do not represent trends in offender-generated violent behavior.
