Intergenerational transmission of political party preference in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

A study analyzing the data from a national survey of high school students in the Netherlands in 1991, to examine the intergenerational transmission of political party preference, shows a fairly strong parental political socialization in the Netherlands. Politically homogenous parents are more successful in transmitting their political preference to their children. On the other hand, the heterogeneous parents are relatively less successful in transmitting their political preferences to their children.

Cleavage-based voting behavior in cross-national perspective: Evidence from six postwar democracies

Article Abstract:

The trends and cross-national variation in the impact of class, religion and gender cleavage on voting behavior in six advanced capitalist democracies in the postwar period are examined. The results suggest that country-specific patterns of cleavage change have lead to growing comparability in the magnitude of the overall social cleavage.
