Current account deficits in Africa: stylized facts and basic determinants

Article Abstract:

There is not much persistence in current account deficits in Africa compared to other developing countries probably due to a higher chance of reversal. There is a positive link between current account deficits and domestic output growth in Africa. It is also found that the current account deficit in Africa is three percent of the gross national disposable income above the equilibrium level.
