Design by computer

Article Abstract:

Computer-aided design (CAD) has seen increased used in the fields of design and engineering. CAD systems are specialized workstations or high performance personal computers that allow graphic images to be changed and copied in various ways. Numerous types of CAD systems are available. For instance, CAD/CAM is a combination of computer-aideddesign with computer controlled manufacturing. CADD or computer-aided design and drafting includes drafting functions, while CADKEY is a two dimensional drafting and three dimensional design system allowing users to create accurate geometric figures. Many new products have also been developed to facilitate theuse of CAD, including software for the creation of blueprints, and home and office design. Software packages also allow full color and three dimensional outputs that are both accurate and attractive.

Establishing a computer system basics

Article Abstract:

The effective implementation of new computer systems for housing and community development organizations begins with organizing steering and user committees with qualified representatives from various departments and community sectors, followed by determining the processes to be computerized and the costs involved. Committees are then required to evaluate available systems. It is also recommended that the reputation of possible suppliers be verified. The selection of software and hardware comes next with software packages evaluated based on their ability to perform required tasks and hardware evaluated based on available maintenance services and the possibility of system expansion. User-training must also be arranged prior to installation and involve all personnel from data processors to higher management.
