Designing and managing public housing self-sufficiency programs: The Youngs Lake Commons Program

Article Abstract:

Experimental public housing self-sufficiency program that encourages home ownership among low-income families is discussed. The implementation of this program highlights tensions within public housing authorities concerning their role on one hand as providers of a limited supply of housing of last resort and on the other hand as service providers.

Basic reading through dance program: the impact on first-grade student's basic reading skills

Article Abstract:

This is a 20 session dance program, a curriculum based reading intervention for first grade students developed by Whirlwind, a not for profit organization. This program proved to be more effective than control students when their reading skills were assessed using a PhonoGraphix test, such as code knowledge and phoneme segmentation.

The significance of definitions of success in program evaluation

Article Abstract:

A Philadelphia, PA, program to prevent juvenile delinquency was examined to see if its goals were being met. Program definition of success and consistent application of those criteria proved to be the most reliable way to evaluate this effort.
