Development and use of English versions of Japanese PM leadership in electronics plants

Article Abstract:

US leadership research in the US based on the traditional Japanese measures of Performance and Maintenance (PM) is likely to produce different results than research based on the comparable Ohio State measures of Consideration and Planning-and-Pressure, according to a study of two electronics plants. The translation and conversion of the PM leadership theory of PM is of interest to scholars, expatriated Japanese managers, and researchers.

Nation, demographic, and attitudinal boundary conditions on leader social rewards and punishments in local governments

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the culture-free and contingency-free application of the theory of performance-contingent rewards and punishments. It is concluded that contingent reward has a stronger relationship to subordinate performance, and noncontingent punishment has a stronger negative relationship to performance in the United States than in Japan.
