Unobserved family effects on the risk of a first premarital birth

Article Abstract:

This article examines social and family factors associated with premarital childbearing risk. Findings indicate that a premarital birth by a sister significantly increases the risk for remaining sisters in White families, but there is only a modest correlation between premarital births among sisters in Black families.

Why are Whites and Blacks averse to Black neighbors?

Article Abstract:

This study examines reasons why both African Americans and Whites prefer living in neighborhoods with few African American residents. Findings indicate that both groups prefer primarily White neighborhoods because they often have lower levels of crime, poverty, and social problems.

Effects of family structure on the risk of first premarital birth in the presence of correlated unmeasured family effects

Article Abstract:

The effects of family structure on the risk of a first premarital birth for a sample of women from the 1979 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth are surveyed. Moreover, further research using additional data and models that lay out finer mechanisms of the process generating family structure might lead to better understanding of the nature of family effects.
