From Weber to Mandelbrot: temporal rationalization and the fractal flattening effect

Article Abstract:

Max Weber's philosophy on the effects of rationalization on technological systems is still applicable to modern society. Society has become more dependent on predictable systems, and society's perceptions and use of time and information have changed. A faster influx of information due to technology can cause the quality of information to suffer. Fractal dimension analysis provides a means of measuring the decrease in temporal complexity.
