Family resources, social capital, and college attendance

Article Abstract:

The influence of parental education, family income and selected aspects of social capital on the probability of attending different types of post-secondary education is studied using four waves of the National Educational Longitudinal Survey (NELS). The results have indicated that parental expectations, parent/adolescent discussion of school activities, Catholic school attendance, school changing, parental involvement in school activities and parent-school academic contact are strongly related to post-secondary enrollment.

Does family structure really influence educational attainment?

Article Abstract:

Research suggests that unmeasured family characteristics are an important factor in assessing the influence of family structure on academic attainment, as they produce statistically significant changes to estimates. Findings are comprised of data from sibling pairs obtained from 1979 to 1992.

Racial/ethnic difference in voluntary and involuntary job mobility among young men

Article Abstract:

The racial/ethnic difference that rates the voluntary and involuntary job mobility among young men is investigated. The investigation revels that the workers with highly paid jobs are less likely to leave the current jobs, which affects the mobility rates.
