GI death and life insurance benefits more equitable

Article Abstract:

The compensation initially paid to the families of the men and women who were killed fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan was paltry compared to the generous one given to the families of those killed in the terrorist attacks of 11th September, 2001. A concerted campaign was orchestrated to set this right as no amount of money will compensate the loss of a loved one and though returning veterans and their families face many readjustment difficulties, the increase in the compensation in case of death and insurance benefits has set it right for the troops to a certain extent.

Succeeding in the civilian job market

Article Abstract:

The problem of employment is one of the most pressing issues among a multitude faced by veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan though legislation has been passed and many programs created to help them. The employment outlook is by no means dismal for veterans and the private sector is a very good option but there should be more assistance programs available and employers, both private as well as governmental, must be aware of their moral obligation during wartime.

Confronting the emotional toll

Article Abstract:

The problem with the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is that GIs are embroiled in volatile situations that leave open to disorders like anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. Concerns about the existing support systems ability to handle the mass influx of affected veterans are a valid one and hence, it is also the society's responsibility to support returning veterans so as to increase their chances of remaining healthy and mentally sound.
