Growth and hierarchical classification of Greek cities, 1951-1981

Article Abstract:

The Greek urban sector has undergone considerable changes since the post-war era, buoyed by economic transformation and other socio-political factors. Among the strongest trends that characterized Greek cities during the period mentioned, the expansion of communication networks may be considered the most essential. Such a trend eventually led urban districts to become more attached with the environment. The period was also marked by a significant increase in tourism activities, which proved useful in promoting the status of regional urban centers.
