Market transition: government policies, and interprovincial migration in China: 1983-1988

Article Abstract:

Events in the late 1980s in China has shown the effect of economic conditions, foreign capital investment, and rural enterprises on interprovincial migration. Results showed that individuals were more likely to leave provinces with a large population and a low development level. There were fewer migrants from provinces with foreign capital investments. There were more migrants from areas with developed rural enterprises, although more educated individuals were less likely to depart from such areas.
