Immigrants, migration, and worker turnover at the Hog Pride Pork packing plant

Article Abstract:

Employee turnover and the conditions of immigrant workers at the Hog Pride pork packing plant in Iowa have been studied. Hog Pride is one of the US' largest pork processing plant and slaughters 3.6 million hogs annually. It is typical of large meat plants with a high percentage of production workers made up of immigrants and refugees. In Hog Pride's case, Latino immigrants make up half of its workforce. Results show tension between whites and Latino immigrant workers. The former resent Latino migrants perception of meat packing work as seasonal jobs. Difficult and hazardous work result in injuries, worker exhaustion and turn over.

Displaying pride in service

Article Abstract:

Veterans and their families can preserve American history by creating miniature military museums in their own homes by assembling a simple display case. By collecting every small military item including ribbons and medals and then arranging it in a display case is the easiest way to exhibit ones military medals and showcase ones participation in the nation's martial past.

Executive migration and interorganizational competition

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the effect of managerial career patterns and their effect on change in the management of formal organizations are discussed. The claim that career choices lead to structures which constrain organizations is tested on the television industry and implications are discussed at some length.
