Journal of Housing LAB: No.22-Locks

Article Abstract:

Crime in housing projects is increasing, and the typical burglar is a local, young adult male who will try to force his way in, and who wants to do it quickly. Planning the right security system is important and cost-efficient. The multiple point, or four-point, locking security system is the most effective system for many buildings. A four-point lock secures the door on all four sides and is keyed in the center of the door. The advantage to this kind of lock is that it makes the door as strong as the wall it is attached to while eliminating the need for more than one lock.

Security products

Article Abstract:

Public housing authorities currently are working to make public housing safer for residents. One safety approach which can be utilized focuses on three factors: locking, lighting, and listening. Locking refers to improving doors and gates, lighting refers to well-lit courtyards and stairwells, while listening refers to providing audio/visual surveillance equipment. A variety of security products are reviewed which enhance housing safety including access control products, fire alarms, and security lights.
