LBJ champions the civil rights act of 1964

Article Abstract:

The way in which Lyndon B. Johnson set the stage for the legislation years before and how the choreographed passage of the historic measure in 1964 is discussed. This was a year when the civil rights movement was rapidly gaining strength and when racial unrest was playing a role in the presidential campaign.

Finding place for the Negro: Robert C. Weaver and the groundwork for the civil rights movement

Article Abstract:

A brief description of how the cabinet member Robert C. Weaver helped to shape US government policies towards African Americans during World War II is presented. He and John P. Davis created the Negro Industrial League in 1933 and testified for Negro workers at the National Recovery Act code hearings.

Celebrating the Wright brothers' first flight: the International Civil Aeronautics Conference of 1928

Article Abstract:

The International Civil Aeronautics Conference of 1928 gave the first major national recognition of the Wright's brothers' achievement of powered manned flight. The conference also reflected the post-Lindbergh flight and the pre-Depression euphoria of American aviation.
