Marital homogamy in the United States: the influence of individual and paternal education

Article Abstract:

Marital homogamy in the US is influenced by individual and paternal education. Homogamy is an observed condition in which persons with similar characteristics and attitudes tend to marry one another. It has been found out that people with higher paternal education and acquired education tend to look for people with similar educational attainment. However, women do not seem to look for paternal education in their prospective partners in the same degree as husbands look for it in their spouses.

Assortative mating after divorce: a test of two competing hypotheses using marginal models

Article Abstract:

Data collected from 927 married men and women is analyzed to examine the association between spouses' educational attainment, social class, and age in their first and current union. It is concluded that the remarrying men might find a more educationally homogamous partner than their first partner. The greater age heterogeneity of available spouses is an important determinant of weaker age homogamy in the remarriage market.
