Measuring the economic benefits from R and D: improvements in the MMI model of the United Kingdom national measurement system

Article Abstract:

The improvements that are made to the mapping measurement impact (MMI) model, which is used by the UK department of Trade and Industry to assess the economic benefit to industry of different research project of the United Kingdom national measurement system, are described. The MMI model allows evaluating the benefits and prioritization of future funding schemes and has a potential for wider application in other areas of public R and D investment.

Combining entrepreneurial and scientific performance in academia: towards a compounded and reciprocal Matthew-effect?

Article Abstract:

An examination whether entrepreneurial and scientific performance in academia can be reconciled is presented. The results suggested that engagement in entrepreneurial activities coincided with increased publication outputs, without affecting the nature of the publications involved and when the resources increase, the interaction points towards a Matthew-effect.

R&D and the growth of firms: empirical analysis of a panel of Italian firms

Article Abstract:

The growth of firms with their innovative activities is presented. It also considers that firms with a strong commitment to R&D have a higher rate of growth as they succeed in the product market.
