Methodological and management issues in applied interdisciplinary AIDS research in developing countries

Article Abstract:

Applied anthropology can play a significant role in AIDS research through the development of effective educational approaches to HIV prevention. The social and cultural components in applied anthropology will help counselors to understand better the psychology of the disease and its impact on the society. Although the field cannot develop the cure for AIDS, its contributions can help health care staff to provide better counseling to AIDS patients and their families.

Globalization: touchstone policy concepts or sucked orange?

Article Abstract:

Applied anthropology continues to draw the interest of researchers and policy experts worldwide, as it remains to be one of the most essential elements of political science. Compared to traditional policy making frameworks which center on acculturation and urbanization, modern-day anthropology has been largely affected by the globalization phenomena. Experts believe that the trend would eventually create a niche for applied anthropology in social philosophy.

Strategies and game plans

Article Abstract:

Applied anthropology can be advanced through methods that are timely, concise, advance an easily-understood argument that are based on value positions, partisan and with a significant public constituency. These methods can be applied in situations such as the impact of regulatory actions made by agencies at every level, the Pehuenche-IFC-ENDESA case or the displacement of an ethnic tribe in Chile due to a dam-reservoir project.
