On using journal rank to proxy for an article's contribution or value

Article Abstract:

The extent to which an article's contribution or value can be substituted by the ranking of the journal in which it is published is explored. Articles from 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997combined as well as individually, indicated that articles from the journals most often considered to be the top three (journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, and The Accounting Review) do have the tendency to be cited more frequently than those from other journals.
