Privacy and social stratification

Article Abstract:

Technology is a double-edged sword with respect to social stratification and it appears that society is becoming increasingly stratified on the basis of access to information. New surveillance technologies are likely to sustain and even strengthen traditional forms of social stratification since it is control over information, a characteristic of privacy which leads to stratification in society.

Design and development of next generation of information infrastructure: Case studies of broadband public network and digital city

Article Abstract:

A comparative case study is conducted on three digital city (public networks) projects with a focus on the processes involved in the development of such networks and the consequences of such networks. The study investigates the initiation of the information infrastructure projects, their policy formulation processes, and the development of such projects.

What's new about the "New Surveillance"?: classifying for change and continuity

Article Abstract:

A minimalist rendering of the most basic dimensions, which cut across and can be used to characterize any surveillance activity is discussed. The use of multiple senses and sources of data is an important characteristic of much of the new surveillance.
