Cost efficiency of Belgian local governments: a comparative analysis of FDH, DEA, and econometric approaches

Article Abstract:

The cost efficiencies of local government units in Belgium are examined by utilizing parametric techniques, such as deterministic and stochastic parametric frontiers, and non-parametric methods, such as the Free Disposal Hull and Data Envelopment Analysis. Empirical results show that variances in mean efficiency scores of the methods were wide, indicating that one method is not superior to the other in terms of cost efficiency analysis.
