A relative deprivation approach to understanding underemployment

Article Abstract:

The relative deprivation theory in exploring and explaining how underemployment is perceived by people and the referent others and the consequent effect experienced is analyzed. The study suggests careful consideration of objective elements of pay and job security loss, and subjective elements of perceived incompatibility between job-skill and job-experience. It also suggests future research that will allow multiple referent others in assessing levels of underemployment and relative deprivation.

Mentor-protege diversity and its impact on international internship experiences

Article Abstract:

Demographic differences may undermine the potential of career-oriented employees, particularly those involved in international internship. Statistics derived from an analysis involving 138 international interns indicate that nationality and gender differences tend to jeopardize task-, social-, and career-related support rendered by a mentor to an intern. Demographic divergence has been further shown to generate weak socialization, lower levels of learning and unsuccessful career planning.
