Reaching Mrs. Murphy: a call for repeal of the Mrs. Murphy exception to the Fair Housing Act

Article Abstract:

The 'Mrs. Murphy' exception to the Fair House Act for dwellings occupied by four families or less should be repealed. Repeal would prohibit rejecting a prospective tenant on grounds of race, color, religion, sex, family status, or national origin. Mrs. Murphy landlords lack First Amendment 'freedom of association' interests; such a claimed right is really a claim of a right to discriminate. Landlords could still challenge the law, as applied to them, on narrow, nondiscriminatory grounds.

Fair Housing is not so much fair as it is politically correct. Prospective buyers and/or leasers are allowed to make decisions based on race, color, religion, sex, family status, or national origin but the owners and property managers are not. How could this be called fair?
