Relations of incumbent affect-related personality traits with incumbent and objective measures of characteristics of jobs

Article Abstract:

A mail survey of University of South Florida civil service employees was conducted to examine if affect-related personality traits of people determine their choice of jobs. The study focused on the relationship of trait anxiety and dispositional optimism with the objective features of people's jobs. The results showed that people high in trait anxiety tend to be in jobs that are low in autonomy, identity, variety, significance, complexity and feedback, while people high in dispositional optimism tend to be in jobs that are high in all those job characteristics.

Coping with job-stress: a conceptual evaluation framework for coping measures

Article Abstract:

A conceptual evaluation framework of coping measures to alleviate job stress is presented. Coping involves two dimensions, the focus of coping and the method of coping. The focus of coping includes emotional reaction or the problem at hand. The methods of coping are varied and include cognitive and behavioral techniques. The framework's components also include specificity which involves coping with effectiveness, coping style and its stress management applications.
