Rural health prepayment schemes in China: towards a more active role for government

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the rural health prepayment schemes established in China as part of the government's effort to establish new sources of finance for social services. Contributions had a voluntary nature which limited the possibilities for risk-sharing and redistribution between the poor and the rich. Results suggest that the relationship between health prepayment schemes and other actors in rural localities should be clarified before schemes could become a major source of rural health finance.

A review of relationships between active living and determinants of health

Article Abstract:

There are three possible relationships between active living, as embodied by physical activity and recreation, and determinants of health. Positive living conditions foster active living. Active living, in turn, leads to better health and living conditions. There is mounting evidence that a sedentary lifestyle can cause cardiovascular diseases. There is also an improvement in such factors as mental health as a result of enhanced active living and physical health.
