What enhances or inhibits learning a new job? A basic career issue

Article Abstract:

A model of the factors that enhance or hinder learning a new position is proposed and partially tested. Time on the job explained 27% of the variance in the facility with which a position was learned, and individual-differences, job-characteristics, context, and environmental factors explained an additional 24%. Job characteristics such as role complexity and lack of job challenge and individual differences such as self-efficacy and immediate prior similar experience were strongly related to job learning. In addition, contextual factors representing the organization's climate, pace, and stage contributed to the explanation of job learning along with the individual's marital status. Job challenge (lack of) and job significance were most strongly associated with enhanced job learning. Inhibitors did not have as strong an influence on learning as did enhancers. 25 years later: the impact of Roe v. Wade

Article Abstract:

The US Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade settled the issue of the legality of abortions and a woman's right to privacy to choose the procedure, but it did not resolve a woman's ability to obtain an abortion. Abortion opponents have successfully limited a woman's ability to obtain an abortion by working through state and federal legislatures, courts and with violence. Abortion opponents also campaign against newer forms of contraception and the use of fetal tissue research.
