Tunnels and quality of life in Munich

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the debate on whether to build more tunnels for motorized traffic in Munich, Germany, reveals that the argument is less on improving the quality of life for its inhabitants than it is for stimulating the economy. The entry of the motor vehicle industry lobby into the arguments is seen as a clear indication of the direction that big business wants the city to take. However, the implementation of stricter German federal emissions regulations might be enough to stop those plans.
