A congregational remapping of culture wars

Article Abstract:

The congregation of the evangelical left, which treads the middle ground between religious conservatives and religious liberals, was examined ethnographically. Findings indicated that their social and political activities are neither liberal nor progressive. Instead, such a congregation has formed a local culture which tends to shift the boundaries of the culture wars. This shift is based on the idea of covenantal relationships which affect every aspect of their fellowship.

The last man's culture - revisited

Article Abstract:

The approaching end of the second millennium has made a number of people restless and searching for clues as to the fate of mankind. Scientific developments of the 20th century have drastically changed the technological landscape such as computers, nanotechnology and femtochemistry. However, none of these developments can provide a new and generally shared belief. On the contrary, these developments emphasize man's growing need for spirituality.

Culture and ethnic identity in Daghestan

Article Abstract:

Field research was conducted on the culture and ethnic foundations in Daghestan from 1992-1996. Both secular and religious leaders in villages, district centers and the capital of Makhachkala were asked to participate. Results showed that there are indigenous cultures, ethnic identities and that the North Caucasus region is experiencing a transition from a Russian-dominated cultural and generational identity to that of Islam.
