The difficulty of measuring capital, revisited: does science offer an alternative?

Article Abstract:

Five physical units are proposed in recognition of the problem economists face in measuring physical capital in significant forms. The five units include energy consumption ability of production machinery, the calculation speed in information processing, volume and floor space of structures, acres of utilized land, and other raw materials valued in economic terms. The rationale for using such units is based on hedonic price studies on capital equipment which represent changes in technology.

Mode-locking in a forced business cycle

Article Abstract:

The Goodwin business cycle model was utilized to assess the effects of the phenomenon of mode-locking in such a system. A disruption of external nature such as a sine wave was used to demonstrate the phenomenon's effects and the relevance of nonlinear analysis in economics. The occurrence of mode-locking or frequency-locking in physics and electronics can help in the study of the effects of cycles of macroeconomic systems and the interactions of different economic sectors.
