The evolution of technological capabilities in the multinational corporation - dispersion, duplication and potential advantages from multinationality

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the postwar development of 24 Swedish multinational firms showed that multinational corporations are imbued with several competitive advantages compared with single nationality corporations. Much of the advantage is in the form of flexibility, in management, techology and operations. This is achieved through the duplication of functions in each of the multinational's regional units, whose expertise can be tapped into the overall corporate operations. But tapping from a larger pool of talent can also have its managerial implications.

How do you mean 'global?' An empirical investigation of innovation networks in the multinational corporation

Article Abstract:

Multinational firms have been observed to employ different innovation networking schemes with other firms and industries. Usually their choice of networking methodology depends on the extent of their international spread or on the degree of diversity of their technological acumen. Their networking approach would also take into consideration how they could enhance their competitiveness and how they can combine the varied technologies developed in their geographically dispersed facilities.
