The life course perspective on drug use: a conceptual framework for understanding drug use trajectories

Article Abstract:

The life course perspective on drug use is discussed. Analytic and conceptual issues that are involved in explaining the development of drug use trajectories during an individual's lifetime are examined. It is concluded that research on individual change and interindividual differences on drug use trajectories can help in identifying turning points that influence the life course on drug dependence.

Analytic approaches for assessing long-term treatment effects: examples of empirical applications and findings

Article Abstract:

Methodologies that are used to determine the effectiveness of long-term treatment of substance abusers are examined. The authors discuss the structural equation model, hierarchical model, time-series model, latent growth curve model, and survival/event history analysis, and maintain utilizing a number of applications will offer more complete understanding of long-term care.

Trajectories of heroin addiction: growth mixture modeling results based on a 33-year follow-up study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine trajectories of heroin use and its subsequent effects. The study used a sample of 471 male heroin addicts who were admitted to the California Civil Addict Program from 1964 to 1965, and followed-up after 33 years. It was found out that heroin addiction can cause higher mortality rates and can affect mental health and employment.
