Philosophy from the outside

Article Abstract:

An argument is presented refuting the premise of Randall Collins' ' The Sociology of Philosophies,' which states that conflict is necessary to affect intellectual change. It is posited that common interests and goals are instead the primary agents of change, because they draw intellectuals together who then build on individual strengths.

The philosophical deficit in Randall Collins's 'The Sociology of Philosophies'

Article Abstract:

An argument is presented that scientific research signifies partly as it adds to philosophical development. Rather than positing a disjunction between science and philosophy, it is argued that an interplay exists between the two fields, particularly within the framework of Western thought.
