The socialization of union loyalty

Article Abstract:

Positive early socialization experiences of unionists result in organizational loyalty. A study on union commitment supports this view and points to union attitudes and training satisfaction as the main determinants of loyalty to the union. The study also highlights the significant role played by training leaders in developing the apprentices' healthy regard for the union.

A study was conducted to determine if there are differences in union loyalty between Japanese white-collar and blue-collar workers and across various white-collar jobs. Social exchange and union commitment: a comparison of union instrumentality and union support perceptions

Article Abstract:

A survey was made to measure union commitment through members' perceptions of union support and instrumentality. Using the social exchange theory, the attitudes of members toward their unions were analyzed. Results show that union commitment depends on the members' perceptions of the union's ability to address both their economic and non-economic needs.
