The veiled crew: an exploratory study of wives' reported and desired contributions to coastal fisheries enterprises in Northern Norway and Nova Scotia

Article Abstract:

The fit between the reported and the desired contributions of wives to small boat fishing enterprises in North Norway and Nova Scotia is explored. The research first compares fisheries-dependent households in the two regions, then makes a dyadic comparison of the viewpoints of wives and husbands. Several patterns which confirm misperceptions among husbands and wives about the latter's reported and desired contributions to the family fishing enterprise emerge. The results' implications to household dynamics, government job creation policies and the linkage between job and family support policies for fisheries-dependent communities are described.

Small wars and invisible genocides

Article Abstract:

Some poor and semi-autonomous youths have become victims of violence because they were perceived as 'dangerous.' In Brazil and South Africa, lawmakers are drafting new constitutions and Bills of Rights to protect these marginalized youths. Society must recognize that violence and invisible genocides are being committed against a certain class of youths. These youths should be regarded as important components of society who also have inalienable human rights.

Increasing contributions in solicitation campaigns: the use of large and small anchorpoints

Article Abstract:

Charitable contribution requests including legitimization of paltry contributions or a large anchorpoint are examined. Results show that a large anchorpoint increases average contributions, legitimization of paltry contributions enhances compliance rates, and the combined use of a large anchorpoint and legitimization of paltry contributions does not significantly alter compliance or contribution sizes.
