Transnationalism and the new religio - politics: reflections on a Jewish orthodox case

Article Abstract:

A theoretical framework for analyzing the growing public prominence, and rising influence, of transnational religious movements on the contemporary world stage, with specific reference to the case of Agudat Israel, a prominent 'ultra-orthodox' Jewish organization is developed. Suggestions to overcome the conceptual barriers for a critical understanding of movements like that of Agudat Israel and the religio-politics in which they are embroiled are presented.

Global-local Amazon politics: conflicting paradigms in the rainforest campaign

Article Abstract:

The Amazon rainforest is one of the important topics of transnational activism based on the assumption that the consumption of timber in the northern hemisphere is largely responsible for deforestation. Some dimensions of the new Amazon policies that are driven by a global market perspective centered on forestry and which may consequently render local and diverse cultures invisible are discussed.
