The problems faced by universities throughout the world are similar in their attempts to continue research and contribute the benefits of this research to society. The creative triangle of the research institution is foundational research, graduate education and industrial cooperation. The research is the driving force, the education is the source of new, young talent and industrial cooperation provides reality and social relevance.

Revitalizing university research and its contribution to society: a conference at the Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance

Article Abstract:

The Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance International Satellite Symposium and Conference was held from Mar 5-7, 1997, and discussed returning university research results to society. The objectives of the conference were providing university research results to industry to develop new products, spurring research in Japanese universities and developing new partnership roles for government, university and industry.

Utilizing university research for social contribution

Article Abstract:

A case study of Cornell University's contributions to regional economic development is provided. Sustainable development will be the major social, environmental and economic issue of the 21st century. The research university will conduct research to have an effect on introducing new technologies and improving community living through a more ecological approach.
