A global overview of major or unique libraries, clearinghouses, and bibliographic databases in social gerontology

Article Abstract:

There are three developments in the field of gerontological information sources. The field has experienced a slow but steady growth complemented by a growth in the variety of materials available and an increase in the holdings of established information resources on the topic of aging. These information resources tend to be highly varied and specialized. However, most information resources on gerontology are found predominantly in industrialized countries, with the US as the leading provider of such services.

Toward social security reform

Article Abstract:

The large-scale demographic shifts expected in the near future will require a restructuring of the US Social Security system. The balance between financing and benefits in the 1990s will be inadequate to address the needs in upcoming years. Restructuring, however, will provide an opportunity for legislators and the public to review alternatives and make improvements.
