Alcoholism treatment outcome studies, 1980-1992: the nature of the research

Article Abstract:

Analysis of alcoholism treatment studies conducted between 1980 and 1992 shows that almost half of them are single-group studies. Single-group studies are based on general treatment of inpatients while multiple-group studies are based on cognitive-behavioral and psychotherapeutic interventions. Researchers and patients in the studies are generally male. Most studies fail to provide information about patients and treatments, and lack control groups. Outcomes other than drinking are rarely studied.
